A native Californian, Alexander Wang was born and raised in San Francisco, California. At the age of 18, he moved to New York City to attend Parsons School of Design, occupying himself with a variety of fashion internships. By his second year at Parsons, Alex had already begun designing the first collection of his namesake label. He launched his full women’s collection in 2007, selling his designs to over 200 stores. In 2008, Alex received top honors as the recipient of the prestigious CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. He was again recognized in 2009 and 2010 as the winner of the Swarovski Designer of the Year—for his womenswear collection in 2009 and his accessory collection in 2010. Alex’s most recent achievements came in 2011, when he was acknowledged by GQ as the best designer of the year and by the CFDA as the best accessory designer. Now at 27, Alex resides in Manhattan, which is also home to his design studio and first flagship store that opened in Soho in March 2011.
