INTERNSHIP FASHIONISTA: Maximum Style
Written by: Rachel Cichowicz

Simply put: New York rocks. The opportunities this city offers are endless for an interning college student. Those of us fortunate enough to be here this summer, we’ve experienced the overwhelming, yet amazing atmosphere this city provides. While some equate internship attire to the conservative standard of stuffy suits, nude hosiery and "practical pumps" (::shiver::), College Fashionistas all over Manhattan have proved that the contemporary intern incorporates originality into office outfitting.

Today’s Internship Fashionista was spotted in the Gallery District on her way back to Karla Otto Public Relations from running Victoria Beckham samples to Elle. Upon meeting, I was immediately intrigued by her eclectic mix of summertime staples in a chic, office appropriate ensemble. Her buttery silk chiffon top was a lovely compliment to black maxi skirt. Keeping her jewelry simple and on-trend, this Fashionista wore understated chains to add a bit of edge to her look. She also expertly incorporated seasonal straw accessories with a black panama hat and a gorgeous woven clutch.

Originally from Copenhagen, this Fashionista radiates European chic and brings a unique outlook on office attire, "One of the best aspects of interning in a creative field is your freedom of expression. Realistically, a suit leaves little room for imagination—I’m glad I am able to showcase my individuality every day in the workplace." Brilliantly put, this intern beautifully salvages style and sophistication in her work wardrobe.

Interning in New York City is a never-ending adventure regardless of career path. Like any good world capital, this town is a medley of cultures and communities whose inhabitants are anything but homogenous. This wonderful, vivacious, frenetic place allows eager interns from all over to experience the best of art, architecture, fashion, and food. Make a lasting impression on your coworkers and supervisors by adding a bit of imagination to your work wardrobe. While I’m not suggesting you stroll into your office donning a silver lamé leotard and six-inch stilettos, I firmly believe in adding personal touches to professional attire. If your office doesn’t allow much leeway in dress code, add color, pattern, texture or tasteful accessories into your ensembles.

Remember Fashionistas, the style savvy come from an array of fields. Enjoy your internship and celebrate your style. Whether you are spending your summer crunching numbers or running Pucci dresses to Vogue—there is never a reason to sacrifice chic for stuffy.
