What is your favorite part of being a TEEN VOGUE intern?
There are so many amazing things about being a part of TEEN VOGUE! I love being able to get the behind the scenes look at how an event is put together from start to finish and learning about all the different aspects that go into planning an event. It’s also great to be able to learn about what each person does individually and see how it all comes together in the end.
How did you land this internship?
Last year, I attended TEEN VOGUE’s Fashion University event and met one of the interns at the time. She talked to me about how she got her start at the company and offered to pass my resume along to her supervisor. A few months after, her supervisor contacted me for an interview!
What advice would you give aspiring students on landing an internship?
The most important thing you can do is network! Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and meet new people, you might be surprised how willing people are to help you out. Its great to reach out to different people you know and show your enthusiasm and determination. Even if someone doesn’t have a position for you right away, building that relationship might pay off in the future!
What do you believe is the most important quality to possess in order to be a successful intern?
I think the most important quality for an intern to possess is resourcefulness. There is usually a solution to any issue and your supervisors will appreciate you taking the initiative to figure it out. While they are there to help, problem- solving on your own is so important! As an intern, many situations can arise where you might not know exactly what to do, but thinking on your feet and being resourceful are great qualities to possess. That and a positive attitude!
How did your passion for fashion transpire?
My dad moved to New York City when I was in high school and as I began to spend more time there, I was instantly captivated by the fast- paced energy and street styles around me. Seeing the creativity and unique styles everywhere really inspired me to learn more about the industry. I decided shortly after to go to school for fashion!
Who are your favorite designers?
One of my favorite designers is Betsey Johnson. I love incorporating her fun styles and natural craziness into my own looks. Her ability to stay true to herself and be so unique in this industry is really inspiring! I also obsess over anything Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors, all of their pieces are so beautiful!
What are your favorite sources for fashion inspiration?
I am still trying to learn as much as I can and develop my own personal style at this point in my life so I tend to look everywhere for inspiration. My favorite source is definitely just the people around me. I love people watching and looking at the street styles here in New York City, as well as on campus at the University of Delaware. I also absolutely love blogs like lookbook.nu, collegefashionista.com, and Pinterest for outfit inspiration!
What is your signature look?
I don’t think I have one signature look, as my style changes so much with my mood. I tend to gravitate to the more girly, yet comfortable and classic styles on a regular basis but I love trying out new looks! I love florals and cute skirts just as much as my black biker boots so I am constantly pairing different things and figuring out what I like. But one thing I never leave home without is my Michael Kors watch!
What is your dream job?
My dream job would probably be working here at TEEN VOGUE or a fashion brand in the events and advertising department. I love the energy in event planning and could definitely see myself pursuing it in the future!
