What is your favorite part of being a TEEN VOGUE intern?
My favorite part of being a TEEN VOGUE intern is being a part of the office environment. TEEN VOGUE is full of energy and overall fun people to be around. There is never a dull or angry moment, just occasional jokes, great stories and focused work.
How did you land this internship?
Through a connection I spent last summer interning with W magazine in the same position -- as a sales intern. My internship with W helped me learn the basics of magazine advertising sales and gave me an in with Conde Nast publications.
What advice would you give aspiring students on landing an internship?
I would say seek any possible connection you have to your dream job. Such as friends who have held an internship you're interested in or teachers, advisors, parents and previous employers who have a job in the field you're looking to go into. Basically, just talk to everyone and get your resume and name out there. The first step for anything is to have your own professional resume.
What do you believe is the most important quality to possess in order to be a successful intern?
A successful intern hates being bored. A successful intern is constantly looking for assignments, shadowing people around the office, building relationships and making sure they understand the big picture of every assignment they are given.
How did your passion for fashion transpire?
My passion for fashion transpired the day I was born. I say this because I have an extremely fashionable mother whose magnificent eye for fashion has become an enormous part of my life. It was then through modeling gigs and countless magazine piles and torn out pages -- enough to coat my bedroom wall - that I, Shelby Miles, became a living, breathing fashion and fashion magazine addict.
Who are your favorite designers?
I can't say it's too original, but no one beats the Olsen twins for me. I think they are perfect fashion goddesses.
What are your favorite sources for fashion inspiration?
I must say my most coveted fashion inspiration source is my tumblr feed. Yes, guilty. I follow blogs with photos -- usually street style photos -- that inspire my personal style. Living in Brooklyn is also quite the fashion inspiration; it's the live version of my tumblr dashboard.
What is your signature look?
High-waisted, cutoff Levi's, snagged black tights, a flowing button up silk top (buttoned to the top), large black boots and red lipstick.
What is your dream job?
My absolute dream job is to work for a fashion magazine in advertising sales. I want to be a sales representative for either luxury fashion or beauty.
